Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 28th April 2024

(April 28, 2024)

The opening week of the season finished with a victory for the Ladies over the Gents 40-33 in a match truncated by rain. The Gents , in the shape of David Barlow, John Nettleingham and Norman Deegan salvaged some pride in gaining top rink honours.

Our opening league match in the Brodie Tray League resulted in defeat at Shoreham who were making a return to this competition. They won 3 rinks to 1 but Marine Gardens pulled off an overall points victory 68-67 to level the match, thanks to a sterling effort by Alan Paterson, Pat Hogan, Perry Cairns and skip Rod Smith winning by 33 - 8. Shoreham took 6 points and Marine Gardens 4.

Goring Manor came, saw, and conquered at Marine Gardens in our opening friendly match winning on 3  rinks with 1 rink halved. The whitewash was averted following a spirited fightback from 11 - 3 down to level their rink at 15-15 led by captain and skip Jim Gray, Terry Ashley, Alan Paterson, and Leon White.

In our 2nd friendly match at home to Steyning, Angela Neale, Jack Wilshaw and Bob Cole were our only winners with losses posted in the other 4 rinks. Well, done for flying the flag.

Next week we look forward to the start of the Triples League, our new Australian Pairs competition and some long-awaited WARMER weather.

Alan Paterson, Press Officer.
