Club Match Results
(June 03, 2018)Marine Gardens achieved their third straight victory last week playing in Division 3 of the West Sussex Bowling League defeating Storrington for the second time this season. Playing at home, Marine Gardens claimed a match victory with a total score of 82 to 62 resulting in 8 league points being awarded with 2 collected by Storrington. At the halfway stage, the home team led by a mere 5 shots with a vigorous encounter on both sides experienced by all skips. Ivan Godsmark went down by 5 shots on the 14th end, however responded by a scoring a 6 on the 17th eventually winning his rink (30 - 15) assisted by Len Tebby, John Nettleingham and Francis Fahey. Mike Hitchin had a hard fight to win his rink (16 - 15) despite holding a lead at half time. Dennis Martin led by one shot at the halfway stage and raised the bar in the second half to win his rink (19 - 11). Leon White (17 - 21) unfortunately went down.
A clear victory of 10 shots against Norfolk in the WSBL gave Marine Gardens their third win in the League playing at home with a final score of 85 to 75, resulting in 7 league points being awarded with 3 going to Norfolk. Leading by a margin of 8 shots at the halfway stage, Marine Gardens kept up their standard of play despite a strong attempt by Norfolk to clinch the match in the final period, however the home team winning two out of four rinks and drawing on a third. Dennis Martin scored a 5 on the 19th end to take his team to a (23 - 16) win, including the other triumphant skip Ivan Godsmark who scored a creditable (26 - 15), whilst Mike Hitchin fought off a last minute charge by R Shrubs of Norfolk to draw (21 - 21) despite leading by 6 shots at halfway. Leon White went down to D Abbott losing (15 - 23). Len Tebby, John Nettleingham and Francis Fahey supported Godsmark to once again, take top rink prize for the match.
The WSBL leader board now shows Marine Gardens having accumulated 23 points are just 2 behind the current leader Middleton holding 25.
In other news, Marine Gardens played Homefield Park away last Friday in a non league friendly of 4 rinks, winning the match by a mere 4 shots, scoring 80 to 76. At the halfway point, Marine held a 32 shot lead, however, Homefield rallied strongly in the second half reducing the deficit by 28 shots. Jenny Ashman scored a 7 on the 5th end early in the game, but lost 4 on the 14th, finally winning her rink (23 - 19) including the top rink prize with her team, Anne Knight, Bill Hebert and Terry Urben. Len Tebby also won his rink (23 - 19) scoring a 6 on the 5th end, a further 5 on the 11th, but losing 4 on the 16th. Mike Elborough suffered a loss of 6 on the 4th end playing his rink, ultimately losing overall (15 - 20). Brian Fuller also went down (16 - 25).
