Marine Gardens BC – report for week ending Saturday 21/09/19
(September 21, 2019)“Marine’s Mike presents record cheque to charity”
Saturday 21/09/19 – over 50 members gathered at a sun-kissed Marine Gardens for a fun drive comprising 6 rinks. There was plenty of fun on the green, but the most important event occurred before the bowls, with club captain Mike Ives presenting a bumper cheque to Chris Sillet of charity Meningitis Now.
A delighted Chris received a cheque for £1710.85; comfortably the largest sum raised in recent memory for any of the various charities chosen annually by the captain. Events had taken place all season including raffles & spiders; culminating with a fun day in August with games on the green and tombola & cake sales off it.
Captain Mike thanked all members for their unstinting support throughout the season which had resulted in such a large sum being raised. Charity representative Chris; whose own son died from meningitis aged 19, assured club members that the donation would be put to excellent use.
