Report for the 2020 Supreme Champion final.
(July 26, 2020)“Foul weather on Saturday 25 July meant an inevitable delay of 24 hours. The protagonists: ladies champion Jill Colbourn and gents champion Ivan Godsmark, eventually taking to the green at 3pm on Sunday 26 July. A substantial crowd of 70 plus, comprising club-mates and members of the public, were hoping for a close-fought match. Unfortunately, the persistent rain had made for a slow green and while both players tried hard it was Ivan who made the best of tricky conditions, exacerbated by a stiff sea breeze. The game was played with three bowls per player over 15 ends, and after just 3 ends Ivan was 9 shots to the good, an advantage he never relinquished.
Jill hit back whenever she could, and some good shots drew warm applause from the supportive, sympathetic crowd. But Ivan was not to be denied, winning by 22 shots to 6 over the full course of 15 ends. The trophy was presented by Norman Deegan MBE, club treasurer and umpire on the day. Competition secretary Steve Davis acted as marker.”
