Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 2nd July 2023
(July 02, 2023)Marine Gardens' bowlers experienced a busy end of June period comprising a Club Drive, 4 matches, Triples League fixtures, ongoing club competitions, and our Presidents Day.
The away match against Southwick Park ended in a 3 -1 rinks victory (81-64) with top rink honours going to Gerry Perch, Linda Gayle, Keith White, and Ivan Godsmark.
This was followed with another away victory in the Brodie Tray over Lancing by 3 - 1 rinks (72-61) Terry Ashley, Ken Leadbeater, and Jenny Ashman claimed top rink honours.
The ladies home GS&M league fixture against Pagham was played in difficult conditions with the visitors winning overall 38 - 35 but sharing the rinks at 1 apiece.
The final match in this period was played at home against Southwater and saw Marine Gardens end this period in victorious fashion albeit narrowly. The match finished 2 rinks each, but Marine Gardens won overall 68-59, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Bob Cole, Liz Baldwin, and Mark Berriman with a winning score of 22 - 9.
The President's Day was well supported and enjoyed by all who participated. The two sets and novel scoring method did not prove to be too daunting and produced worthy winners in Clive Wootton, Betty Stevenson, and Alan Paterson. Paula Seymour (aka Spiderwoman) AGAIN won the opening Spider. A stewards' enquiry is likely to be forthcoming! Thanks to all who contributed to making this a special day, not least our President, Norman.
