News Update
Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 20th August 2023.
(August 20, 2023)We played host to a touring team Rowledge BC and although we won on 3 of the 5 rinks, Rowledge recorded a higher number of shots overall (75 - 96). Anne Knight, Peter Guy, and skip Mark Berriman best served the home team by winning by 23-10.
The Ladies recorded a good win at Storrington in the GS&M league sharing the rinks but having a better overall score (30 - 32). Anne Knight, Jane McHugh, Wendy Wilson, and skip Pauline Hughes scored a decisive 20 - 15 victory. They lost their next match on their travels to East Preston. The rinks were shared, but the home team took 4 points by winning 31 - 24 overall. Their return to home territory brought a victory against Crablands taking all 6 points. Top rink honours went to Anne Knight, Betty Stevenson, Wendy Wilson, and skip Pauline Hughes (20 - 5).
The Gents then halted a poor run by beating East Preston in the WSBL 2 rinks to 1 overall score (64 - 60). A very welcome 6 points, Terry Ashley, Barry Cuckow, Graham Ray, and skip Jim Gray leading the way for the home team with a fine 28 - 17 win.
We returned to earth with a bang the following day losing at home in the Stracey Shield to Tarring Priory who won on all 4 rinks (59 - 109) having trailed behind on 3 rinks for a prolonged period. Stamina training may be required or more jelly babies!
The poor run continued with a 3-rink loss at home in the WSBL against the league's 2nd-placed Witterings (54 - 74).
This was again followed by a home defeat in the Brodie Tray at the hands of league leaders Southwick who won on all 4 rinks (47 - 93).
We now look forward next week to the club's internal competition Finals.
