News Update
Marine Gardens Bowling Club, report w/ending Sunday, 3rd September 2023.
(September 03, 2023)The plaudits this week go to Club Captain Wendy Wilson, for organising a fun-filled Sunday afternoon when £665 was raised for the St Barnabas Hospice. 12 garishly dressed teams took part in a game of bowls in brilliant sunshine, followed by well-deserved refreshments.
The opening Spider was won by Linda Gayle (and not Paula Seymour), with Top Rink honours going to Roger Cooper/Tilly Hennings, Mell Wilshaw, Alan Paterson, and skip Tim Baldwin.
The award for the most colourful character went to the florally bedecked Roy Mills.
Many thanks to all our members who contributed to this venture's success.
Marine Gardens lost the first of 2 friendlies played this week away to Henfield, winning only 1 of the 5 rinks played. Bob Cole, Pauline Crosskey, and skip Mark Berriman just kept their noses in front recording our sole win 18 - 16.
Marine Gardens fared better at home against Southwick Park winning all 3 rinks. Top Rink honours went to Rob Hurst, Lesley McMurdie, Perry Cairns, and skip David Sayer with a solid 21 - 12 victory. Great to see a number of our newer members taking part in matches.
Congratulations to our newly formed Ladies' team who finished in a very creditable 4th position in the GS&M league in this initial season. Well done.
Alan Paterson, Press Officer.
