Marine Gardens Bowling Club report w/ended Sunday, 26th May 2024.
(May 26, 2024)The week started in a celebratory mood at the Club Drive when we recognised the 90th birthday of club stalwart Harry Smith who is well respected by the Worthing and Horsham bowling fraternity.
Another member who had something to celebrate was John Nettleingham being a member of the top rink in each of the 3 matches played. The 1st was in the Stracey Shield match at Lancing when along with Roger Parrish, Keith White, and Bob Cole they registered a 24 - 18 win. This match was drawn with 2 rinks all, Lancing taking the match points with a narrow 85 -80 margin.
In the friendly match at Goring, John joined Brian Saunders, Alan Paterson, and Jenny Ashman as the only rink winners (18 - 14) the match was lost by a 3 - 1 rink margin, final score (71 - 52).
John’s winning streak continued in the company of Bob Cole, Perry Cairns, and Ivan Godsmark in the WSBL match at home against East Preston. Their decisive 36 - 13 victory was 1 of 3 winning rinks, giving Marine Gardens the maximum 8 points (72 - 42).
The Ladies, however, lost their opening GSM league match at East Preston 2 – 0 (32 - 25).
The week's final event on Sunday, saw us welcome some potential new members at our Open Day.
Finally, may we take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks to the FOMG team for their excellent work in the gardens, the most pleasurable location in Worthing to play the sport of bowls.
